Press Release “Stories Untold ΙΙ” Art from Syria

Wednesday 19th September 2018 8 p.m. Glass Building Garden of the Sculptures New Waterfront Thessaloniki

Thessaloniki: The Directorate of Culture and Tourism of the City of Thessaloniki presents the exhibition “Stories Untold II” at the glass building of the Garden of Sculptures – Waterfront Thessaloniki.

After its remarkable success in spring, Stories Untold II comes back to Thessaloniki enriched with new artworks from Syria. The exhibition is a part of parallel events of the 53rd Dimitria of the City of Thessaloniki, a festival which brings art and culture to the for front of Thessaloniki.

Artists who lived in Syria throughout the years of war, witnessing all the challenging conditions of pain, loss and fear, still able to create art that is hopeful and inspiring.

The beautiful paintings present significant messages of hope, peace, love, life and resilience despite the war.

The power of the resilience gives us a real lesson of loving life and the power of art and culture in overcoming darkness.

The “light” presented in the pieces symbolizes the hope of a better future and appreciation of all beautiful aspects of life despite the intensity of pain or loss.

Stories Untold II is a creation of Manas Art Platform with the collaboration of friends from Greece, London and Syria.

With the auspice of Greek national commission of UNESCO, the exhibition will be touring abroad after Thessaloniki and Athens.

The opening of the exhibition is on Wednesday 19 of September 2018 at 20:00, and the artworks are available for people until 14 of October.

Dimitria Festival – Open call for artistic proposals for 2018

In the context of the 53d Dimitria, which will be held in October 2018, the Directorate of Culture and Tourism of the Municipality of Thessaloniki is addressing an open call to agencies, groups and individual artists for proposals for their participations in the Festival concerning events in the fields of music, drama, dance, visual arts, performance art, street art, video art, cinema, lectures, workshops and new technologies.

The proposals will be evaluated by the artistic and organising committee of the 53d Dimitria, and the programme proposals selected will be subsequently announced.

All proposals must be sent:

 Proposal submission data:          

Each proposal is submitted in a sole e-mail message (or envelope) and must include:

  1. Title, Summary/description of the event.
  2. Audiovisual material (photographs, video) – a link to download the audiovisual material.
  3. Technical CVs of the troupe/artists.
  4. Requirements
  5. Proposed venues.
  6. Summary breakdown of the budget, invoicing data and final cost for the realisation of the event.
  7. Contact details.
  8. Νotify us if your artistic proposal has already been presented to an audience (when and where), whether you intend for its premiere to take place during the 53d DIMITRIA or whether it is still in the final planning and implementation stage.

Application submission deadline:

16 March 2018, by 11:59 am (for postal dispatches bearing a post office).

Ιnformation on acceptance or rejection of proposals will be sent only by e-mail, after 1st of June 2018.

Completing and sending the form implies acceptance of the following terms:

  •  The submission of a proposal does not guarantee its inclusion in the Festival’s schedule
  • The Artistic Committee of the Festival is not required to provide a detailed explanation of the rationale for its choices regarding the rejected proposals.
  • No audiovisual material will be returned in physical form.
  •  The Dimitria Festival will not use or distribute the material, but reserves the right to consult with independent experts on the quality of the proposals if need arises.
