A DOCUMENTARY BY KONSTANTINOS KAMBOUROGLOU

73-year-old designer, collector and teacher Stergios Delialis lives like a ghost amidst the ruins of his dream: the Design Museum of Thessaloniki. The only one of its kind since the 90s, home to more than 3000 exhibits of industrial design, it organised dozens of exhibitions and seminars that nurtured the city’s flourishing design scene. The emblematic creator and collector experiences the collision of his dream for a design museum in Thessaloniki with financial reality. Konstantinos Kambouroglou, a director who grew up in Thessaloniki and lives in New York, where he is active through his company Gouse Films, had wanted to make a film on Stergios Delialis and the lost Museum for years. He states: “What interested me was Stergios as an outlook on life: an inspired collector and relentless disciple of design, who cannot stray from his choices”. An uncompromising gentleman of design, he struggles to salvage the meaning of his life, in a film that records one of the most romantic stories of culture, pop culture, and Don Quixote-type stubbornness of modern times.

A fresh Thessaloniki institution is returning with a major celebration of the central market, at a venue where the old meets the new, in a multi-faceted complex of the arts and urban culture.

Live gigs by popular bands from Athens and Thessaloniki, sets by DJs from Greece and abroad, performance art pieces inspired by Kapani Market and its everyday activities, films with references to everything from surrealism to Dadaism, presentations by Kostas Zafirakis, walking tours, exhibitions, tastes and scents of the market, from Askitou Street to Vlali Street and from Spandoni Street to Kydoniatou Street.

Kapani Project, an event that started in 2016 as a multi-thematic stroll through the historical central market of Thessaloniki and gave us many unique experiences, always oriented towards culture, social contact, getting to know the most unique nooks and crannies and the culture of Thessaloniki, is returning with its powerful message: The urban landscape includes authentic neighbourhoods that deserve to come to life.

A unique cinematic look at the creative processes of legendary Czech photographer Josef Koudelka and his photographic journey through Israel and Palestine, as he searches for that fleeting moment that makes the unshakable power of the image tangible.

Having come of age at the height of the Cold War era and with in depth knowledge of what it means to be on “the other side”, Magnum’s emblematic photographer was moved when he first saw the nine-metre high wall that stands in the West Bank. What followed was a four-year journey through the region and a photography project that once again brought him face to face with the cruel reality of a daily life that is plagued by violence and conflict. Baram’s documentary records a special dialogue between the photographer and the director, as Koudelka is placed within the frame of his disarming photographic compositions. A unique film by a creator that states that the first time that he observed Koudelka work “he was hypnotized”, a major homage to one of the last living legends of photography, who has been practising his craft for more than half a century.
