They formed in 2010 and, starting from Athens and travelled to important festivals and theatres around the world. Jukstapoz’s choreographic style is intensely cinematic and borrows elements from the natural environment as a set. ‘The Art of Dying’, a piece inspired by the renowned painting ‘Garden of Earthly Delights’ by Hieronymous Bosch, explores the fragile composition of human existence with delicate humour and surrealism.
The performance focuses on the processes of a “blissful end”, where in a garden that contains both life and rot, the main character Christina Gouzeli looks out upon a landscape of microcosms of delight and decay.
Christina Gouzelis and Paul Blackman created the concept for, directed, and choreographed the piece, while it should be noted that Danish minimalist Jozef Van Wissem, who won an award at Cannes for his work on Jim Jarmusch’s ‘Only Lovers Left Alive’, composed the original soundtrack for the performance.
