The production by National Theatre Radu Stanca in Sibiu is an adaptation after two of the most beautiful texts of dramatic literature, “Oedipus at Colonos” and “Oedipus Rex” by Sophocles, as interpreted by director Silviu Purcarete, whose adaptation combines reality with imagination, developing a poetics of staggering detail.

Visualized through an almost cinematographic atmosphere, it is a picture of terrors, of premonitions and misery, in the spirit of the great masters, albeit as a current interpretation of a legendary destiny.

Strange, surreal, dangerous, deeply melancholic but celebratory at the same time, bold and innovative, Purcarete uses elements that leave a deep mark in european theater. His version of “Oedipus” is one of the Festival’s main attractions.
