‘Life is a sea’ Ports of the World

On an opening night that will live up to the event, an emblematic space both for the city and for southeastern Europe, the Port of Thessaloniki, will be hosting an event full of music, flavours and colours, that will unfold through events that will last more than three hours and with guests from all over the world.

The ports of the Mediterranean, hubs for the region’s history, places where ideas, cultures and populations were exchanged, celebrate in a venue the specifically designed by visual artist Marios Teriade – Eleftheriadis.

The S.O.M.TH. will participate in the opening ceremony with a concert. Participants include soloists Natasha Mare Moumtzidou (singing), Kostas Tsougras (accordion), and Panagiotis Kountouris (electone). They will present Greek and international songs on the theme of the sea and its ports, in covers and orchestrations by Panagiotis Dimopoulos. Next up in the first part of the event will be one of the main soloists of the concert, renowned Palestinian pianist and composer Farag Suleiman, who will accompany and improvise on the music of Manos Hadjidakis. The orchestra will then perform with the composer and his quartet. Faraj will adapt his compositions for the S.O.M.TH., inspired by Arabic culture and jazz tradition.
The next performance will be by Tarabband, a six-member group that was created by the Egyptian-Iraqi Nadin Al Khalidi and Swede Gabriel Hermansson. Their sound symbolically starts from the European North to end in the musical womb o the eastern Mediterranean.
There will also be a touch of gastronomy at the event through street food culture, as producers from Central Macedonia with the collaboration of the Region of Central Macedonia will offer local dishes, which the public will have the opportunity to enjoy with wine or beer. The DJ sets will provide the event with its multicultural, celebratory rhythm.
