MAQAMS OF BLOOD AND MAQAMS OF MILK / GIORGOS LAPPAS

The great Greek artist Giorgos Lappas, one of the most important European sculptors and professors at the Athens School of Fine Art, a consistent creator, who worked ceaselessly until his death in 2016, in a major exhibition whose title he picked.

The group of works refers to the Arab term ‘maqam’, which means ‘place’ and is used in the musical terminology of the Middle East in order to determine the modal system that describes the musical phenomena.

The exhibition has been curated by Aphrodite Liti, sculptor and Professor of Sculpture at the Athens School of Fine Art, and Denis Zacharopoulos, Art Historian and Critic and Artistic Director of the Gallery, Museums and Collections of the Municipality of Athens. An important homage to the work of a creator that climbed to the peak of Art, creating several individual and group exhibitions in Greece and internationally.
