Event Details

What better way to mark “Verdi Year” than by revisiting the great Italian romantic composer’s famous opera? La Traviata is based on the play by Alexandre Dumas fils, Camille (French title: La Dame aux Camélias). Verdi dedicated the opera to the woman who was to become his second wife, Giuseppina Strepponi, a famous singer who had interpreted several of his earlier heroines. La Traviata is not just one of Verdi’s most important works, it is perhaps the most personal of his operas. The music overflows with passionate emotion, while the synergy between director Pierre Thirion-Vallet and conductor Amaury du Closel brings out vividly the solitude and sacrifice of a woman who – if only for a moment – touched a dream.
