Event Details

One of the most important sculptors of the younger generation in post-war Greece, internationally recognised with a rich catalogue of work, Kyriakos Cabadakis is among the most prolific artists in Greece, with compositions that adorn outdoor spaces, and public and private collections, in Greece and abroad.
The exhibition will include famous and unknown works from all of the artist’s periods, as well as the sculptor’s workshop. An art workshop will find a hospitable home in the former Workshops of the Arts and Crafts School. Sculpting wood and casting metals, at some point in the past, in the same space, the boarders of the School learned a craft. Sculpting wood and casting metals, Cabadakis, in his workshop, created Art. The moulds, the dies, and the tools of the School will coexist both with the corresponding early creations of the artist, as well as with his completed pieces. An exhibition that initiates you to the materials, before their final form, the process, before the result, the quest and the destination of a piece of art.

Kyriakos Cabadakis (1938-2003) was born in Drama and raised in Thessaloniki. He studied sculpting and engraving at the Fine Arts School at the State Museum of Contemporary Art in Berlin, where he lived and worked for fourteen years. In 1975 he relocated to Thessaloniki permanently. Influenced by German expressionism, he created sculptures, engravings, and woodcuts, which he presented at a number of solo and group exhibitions.
The human form was a dominant theme in his work, while his attempt to create visual-painting impressions was evident. In his last works, the form is somewhat lighter and characterised by a significant reduction in mass, in order to develop new relationships between the piece and the surrounding space.
In the context of the exhibition a specially designed educational programme will operate for pupils. Communication: 2310.206.910 or 2310.213.800. Head of Education: Areti Kondylidou
