Event Details

A work that delves into the darkest depths of the internet in order to explore the superficiality of interpersonal relationships in the digital world and the fragmentation of geographical borders in our modern networked universe.

‘Black Clouds’ follows the scams of cybercriminals from Ivory Coast who manage to get money from naive Westerners in exchange for promises of wealth or romance. In their hands the internet turns into a courtyard where confused people meet, and a platform for manipulation.

The production raises issues of sex tourism, colonialism of the body, and the digital divide between North and South. It explores the controversial nature of the unbridled, unsupervised medium that is called the deep web or darknet, as a tool that is simultaneously used for purposes of liberation or enslavement, emancipation or propaganda.
