ARGYRO CHIOTI+VASISTAS GROUP DANTE’S ‘DIVINE COMEDY’

Reviews make mention of “a religious experience you take in through all your senses”. All the elements of the performance, which presents Dante’s trilogy in Greece for the first time, promise a complete work of art that adopts music, spoken word and physical rhythm, in order to provide a new dimension in the existential extravaganza of the medieval epic. Four musicians and eight singers, a string quartet integrated into the entirety of the on-stage action, and a solid core of performers, help the narrative unfold. Musical minimalism and electronic music have a live “conversation” through the use of new media, the expressive power of the human body, and the musical dimension of the chorus. A theatrical experience with stops in Hell, Purgatory and Heaven, the Divine Comedy road trip is an unprecedented stage experience.

Director Argyro Chioti and the VASISTAS group faithfully serve the essence of this classical work. They provide audiences with a performance that dives into the realm of shadows in order to achieve a redemptory exodus into the light, with the audience feeling rejuvenated.
